Both MCA middle school boys' and girls' basketball teams excel on the courts as they competed in CSAC tournaments.

Trailing by eight points at halftime, Marshall Christian Academy made a frantic comeback in the final minute to post an exciting 32-31 win against Jefferson Christian in a non-district girl's basketball game Tuesday night.

Leah Lathem and Alex Bartee netted 12 points apiece to pace the Lady Guardians (1-1), who earned their first win of the year.

Alexia Berryman added six steals for Marshall Christian, which will travel to Bethel Christian on Friday.
 

Marshall Christian Academy earned at least a share of each superlative honor in the Texas Christian Athletic League's 6-Man All-District 4, Division II team, which was recently announced by league coaches.

Guardians' senior quarterback Zachary Lastra earned the league's Offensive Player of the Year, while senior linebacker Jared Shankle was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Sharing the award with Shankle was Cleburne Christian's Chris Stanford.

Lastra threw for 516 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 439 yards and seven scores.

Jared Shankle connected with Zachary Lastra for a 20-yard touchdown pass midway through the fourth quarter to lift Marshall Christian to a 30-26 win against Tyler King's Academy in a TCAL 6-Man District 4, Division II football game Saturday afternoon in Tyler.

The win marked the fifth straight for the Guardians (5-3, 2-0), who sealed a playoff berth in the first year of the program's history.

Marshall Christian will host Cleburne Christian in the regular-season finale next week with a chance to win an outright district title.

Zachary Lastra completed 5 of 6 passes for 160 yards to lead Marshall Christian Academy to a 34-6 win against Cleburne Christian Academy in each team's regular-season finale Friday night at Karnack's Indian Stadium.

The win marked the Guardians' (6-3, 3-0) sixth straight and secured them an outright title in 6-Man TCAL District 4-Division II.

It came a week after the Guardians - in their first season of existence - locked up a playoff berth with a road win against Tyler King's Academy.
