As the football season closes in, the six-man game is nearing a return to Harrison and Marion counties.

Marshall Christian Academy and Karnack - each of which will field six-man teams this season - will take part in a three-team scrimmage Saturday at Karnack's Indian Stadium.

MCA head coach Guy Barr had an announcement to make Wednesday regarding the regular season, however.

Barr announced that his team will open its inaugural season with a neutral site game against Baytown Christian. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Aug. 27 at Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist Academy.

Barr said the trip to the stadium, which features FieldTurf, will be a positive way to open the season for his team, especially for the upperclassmen.

"I think it will be a real treat for these seniors because this is their first and their last year to play," the coach said. "For them, it'll be like the Super Bowl. It's just a nice treat and a nice facility."

Calvary Baptist competes in 11-man football, so alterations will have to be made to adjust to the 80-yard-by-40-yard 6-man field.

Tickets for the game will be $5 for adults and $2 for children.

During the remainder of the regular season, the Guardians will be use Karnack's Indian Stadium as their home field.

MCA is set to host Bloomburg on Sept. 17, Jehovah-Jireh College Prep on Oct. 14 and Phoenix Charter on Oct. 22. It will also play Karnack on Sept. 24.

Barr said he hopes the game will provide a good playing environment for each team.

"I think it will be fun for our fans as well as for the kids on both teams," he said. "It's something that we're happy about that we can provide for them and give them that big high school football experience."

The coach also invited the community to come support the team.

"We'd love for the community to come out," Barr said. "I realize that's the same night as the Marshall-Longview game. That's usually going to be the game of the season, but anybody not going to that, come out and see us play over in Shreveport."
